Back to 2007...

I am terrible at writing stuff down so thought I would keep a diary this year, at least I will know where to find dates and stuff.  It will also give you an idea of what goes in to running an Angora stud !  Here then snipets when I remember to fill it in :)

Don's Angoras Stud Diary 2006

     Tulsety's Light Fantasia

 Madonna

January 8th.  V Clipped Emerald and Madonna
Mated Madonna to Gaston, not a good mating, will repeat

Full Clipped Hafody, was overdue bless him. Ivomeced him.
Full groomed the babies  Almond and Ptarmigan.. Both looking amazing.
Lost Jestive, Alpaca Cavy boar today, was getting thin
but he sired a litter of 4 before Christmas so nice babies to remember him by
buried him in the garden :

Jestive

January 10th Full groomed Turnip
Tried Madonna again with Gaston.. Not really interested.

January 11th. Moved Danté on to Wire today.. He is looking great
Fixed Bunnycam again.. Thanks Jeremy !
Checked everyone's bottom, no grooming tonight.
Started spinning Only's second coat. Sooty is far easier to spin than white.

January 16th Was away in Cardiff at the weekend, walking the dogs in the Black Mountains, albeit in the rain.
Not much bunnying done at the weekend.
Tonight, Monday, groomed the show team, Turnip, Autumn, Thornton, Danté, Ptarmigan and Almond.  Exhausted !
Almond and Danté are both looking stunning so excited about them. Ptarmigan who I thought would be the star

has a difficult coat. Tons of furnishings, but not the coat of Almond. He might be amazing as an adult but I think
Almond is set to be the star.
Must get photos and pedigrees up for the new ones.. Not enough hours in the day.
Half an hour spinning Only's second coat before bedtime.

     Autumn

January 17th Little Grem had me fooled.. I thought she was in kindle but went to feed her and she stooped for the buck.
She's as fat as a house but anyhow I put her to Super Stud Eliab who achieved in seconds !  Fingers crossed
this doe finally has a litter as she is stunning.
Groomed out the white babies tonight, just felt like doing them as they are so cute at the moment.

Jan-21 Clipped Gaston and Eliab, both in need although its cold they seem to be doing ok in the shed.

Jan 29th. Scissored all the cavies and ivomecced them. Seperated little sow that’s looking promising.  Clipped Emily and Emerald ivomecced most of the bunnies.  Tried Grem again but not interested.

Jan 29th West Surrey show, took Turnip and Autumn . Autumn won the coloured CC and Turnip was beaten by Val Downer's baby doe. Judge was Eleanor Padwick.
Had a good day with the gang.

Feb 5tth, Only and Emily both built nests but really don’t think they are producing. Not due for a day or two yet so fingers crossed.

Feb10th Only produced a litter lost 4 to chilling, Three in the nest  Sooties or golds. She is being a good Mum.  Emily missed again.

Feb 11th Cardiff this weekend . Wales v Scotland Rugby match. Wales won!

Feb 13th. Emerald stooping for the buck so remated her to Eliab. Nothing else appears to have taken.  Only's babies doing
well, full of milk.  New floors arrived.. Superb.. Moved the show team onto the new floors and groomed them.

Feb 15th Day off to have boiler fixed.  Cleaned out everything and got ready for next week in Toronto.  Mated Emily to Eliab.
Groomed the team.  Babies doing well :)

Feb 18th -26th In Toronto with work.  Minus 20 at times and snow, but lovely sunny days !

  Toronto in the snow.

Steve did a good job of looking after the buns whilst I was away. Had two blue silky chicks hatch
Grem had a single baby but it chilled. Back to the drawing board.  Only's three Gold babies are doing well. Very "Atlanta Stud" looking at the moment.

Feb 27th. Started a new spinning course with Berkshire Spinners guild.  Good fun, small group of 8. We were spinning a Jacob Fleece tonight, much easier than Angora !

Mar 5th South Bucks Show in Frieth.  Had a good day at this show, nice smallish show in lovely setting. Only one Angora class. Almond made her debut winning the U5 class and third in Fancy challenge under Dave Mason. Autumn managed a second against Paula's Fantasia doe who went on to be Best in Show.

Mar 6th Spinning course tonight. Managed to ply the white and Brown Jacob singles.  Not bad for a first attempt.

Mar 15th Clipped Hermione, stunning silky coat. Will mate her at the weekend.  Ivomecced Alpaca Sow. Spinning class tonight, blending Angora and Merino.. looking good.

Mar 24th. Mated Gremlin to Eliab, third time lucky !

Mar 25th Good day with the rabbits.  Clipped Linwood, Elijah, Gaston and Madonna, mated Madonna to Linwood, Emily to Hafody and Emerald to Eliab.  Turnip got out of his hutch and spent the night in the garden... the end of his  show career then !  LOL...  Fortunately Almond is becoming the star and will take over at the shows.

Spinning a Merino/Alpaca/Angora mix.. looking good..

April 10th Final Spinning evening tonight.  Took Hafody and Autumn along for guild members to see the process of harvesting and spinning Angora.

Took a video see video page.

Gold babies are looking good, they had their rings on at the weekend.

Retired Autumn as she was in heavy moult will mate her to Linwood at the weekend.

April11th 2006

Well what do you do when your best show rabbit, two days before a major show weekend , messes her trousers .. AARRGGHHH !  Almond has been ultra clean til now, so today she decides to somehow wet her butt with Bright orange wee.. hmm  She had to go under the tap to salvage her.  Think I did an ok job at it but I will be crying myself to sleep tonight ! Angoras.... oh the joys !

April 14th Didcot show today.  Almond won Best of Breed Angora over stiff competition and Best under 5 Fancy..  Thanks to judge Eddie Hutchings.

Don's Almond Best of Breed. Best Under 5 months Fancy.

April 16th Reading Show, Very busy in the kitchen today . Almond was best U/5 Angora and second U/5 Fancy. Beaten for BOB by Val Downer's adult that Almond beat on Friday. Val's doe went on to be Best in Show.

April  27th. 2006 At last I have white babies.  Little Grem and Emerald both have litters by Eliab born today. Fingers crossed.  These will be my London under fives.

Tulsety's Little Gremlin

Mated Hermione to Linwood.

April 30th. 2006 Lost one of Grem''s two babies had to make a decision so moved the survivor into Emerald's nest. The survivor was a huge chunky baby that was born with coat, fingers crossed it will survive.

Grem is probably the best white doe I have, but an awful mother, this is her third attempt.  Emerald is an unknown as this is her first litter so fingers crossed she does a good job. She is incredibly protective of her babies so she should be ok. She has three of her own plus Grem's giant baby!

May 9th 2006 Babies are doing great, Emerald is a good Mum, even after feeding four of them she weighs a ton.  Grem's baby fostered onto Emerald is still the biggest and looks stunning. They have their eyes open now but not venturing out of the nest yet.

Remated Grem this time to Turnip.  Was his first stud duty but he achieved in seconds. Really excited about this mating. They look so good together.

May 29th. 2006 Just back from the South of France, had a great time.

the Villa

Hermione has a litter by Linwood, 2 chunky chocolate kits, the first chocolates born here.  Emerald's & Grem's White babies are all looking nice, very even . Almond has kept her coat well, looking forward to showing her this coming weekend at the Reading Young Farmers show.

June 12th. 2006 Little Grem had her litter by Turnip.. only two survived but in usual fashion she is being a hopeless Mum so I am assist rearing them.

Seemed to have cured Bunny Cams problems.. Chocolate babies are just amazing. love em ! Sorry neither will be available.

June 24th. 2006 Had a good day in the shed.  Clipped Hafody, Emerald, Eliab , Emily &  Grem. Ivomecced everything including the cavies ! White babies had their rings on and their first official groom.  I will leave them with Mum for another week and then move them on to wire as they already have colossal coats !

So impressed with Emily, fabulous non matting coat. I saved her wool for spinning.  Here she is before and after clipping.  I hope I eventually get babies from her.

June 25th. 2006 Lovely sunny day, the shed is clean and tidy and all the buns are looking great.  Perfect day to mate up some buns.. Mated Autumn to Danté this will be interesting, its a total Bourne stud pedigree that should produce Smokes that carry chocolate.

Mated Emily to Turnip... really hope she takes this time, although she is as fat as a house.  Mated Emerald to Eliab again..  really pleased with their first litter. Emerald is in such good condition despite feeding four growing lads, she is such a good brood doe.

Will be mating Only to Barley owned by Anne Egan.. this lad produced the lovely babies Madonna and Bronson for me so looking forward to this new litter.

Don's Barley

June 30th 2006 Remated Emily.. great mating to Turnip... fingers crossed
